Stuck with computer problems?
Not sure what sort of IT help you need? We’ve listed a few of the common support questions we get, with a quick explanation of what might be causing it and how we can help.
Over time, as you install more and more software programs on your computer, it will slow down. Unwanted programs such as viruses and malware can also reduce the speed of your computer.
A tidy up or even formatting the hard drive (backing up personal files then wiping the computer clean) can help to restore lost speed performance.
This is a frustrating problem and something you want fixed as soon as possible! It can be one or more of the pieces that connect you to the internet such as your computer, the router, your ISP or the cabling in between. It's also possible the website you're trying to connect to is down, so always try a different website like www.google.com before blaming your setup. Also try switching off your router (the internet box that plugs into the wall) for 10 seconds then switching it back on to see if that fixes it.
We can isolate where the problem is and how to fix it, saving you a lot of time, especially if you have to wait on the phone to your ISP!
In most cases these messages are designed to scare you into thinking you have a virus (we refer to this as 'scareware') so that you'll buy their program to 'fix' your problem.
Check with us and we can do a proper scan to make sure you aren't infected, as well as look at removing any scareware on your computer (sometimes they're just ads and you have to learn to ignore them!).
If it's not working, there are 4 things you can do to fix it.
- Verify your Internet connection is working.
- Make sure you're using the correct email server settings.
- Confirm your password is working.
- Confirm you don't have a security conflict caused by your firewall and/or antivirus software.
